Building a Stronger Body After 50, What You Should Consume First Thing in the Morning

After hopefully getting a good nights sleep, when you wake up it is time to nourish your body. Your body after going all night without nourishment, goes into a catabolic or fasting state. What you want to do to preserve your valuable muscle tissue is to get it feed as soon as possible.

One of the best combinations first thing in the morning is to saturate your muscle with a fast acting protein and a slow digesting carbohydrate. Ingesting a whey protein powder for instance with oatmeal is the perfect combination to get your bodies metabolism started in the morning.

There are many brands of good quality whey protein powders on the market however, make sure it is an isolate mixture. This type will digest easier and it is in its purest form. Whey has the highest biologic value of any protein and is easy to mix with water for instance. When consuming a carbohydrate use a slow digesting one like oatmeal. Oatmeal is a complex carbohydrate and will not spike your blood sugars as fast.

Of course there are other types of protein and carbohydrate combinations out there you can use that will suffice as well. It is the simplicity of this combination however that makes this a winner and be consumed in just minutes. This was a combination I personally used during my knee replacement rehabilitation and use it today in my bodybuilding preparation.

The main objective is to stop the negative nitrogen balance that your body is in when you first get up and get it into a positive nitrogen state immediately. This is vital to keep your body from catabolizing itself and, it helps to maintain the precious muscle tissue we use to carry us through the day. By feeding it with the above combination it stays strong and keeps your metabolism running.
