Knee Replacement Surgery Cost - The Inside Numbers

Replacing your knee isn't a little venture, where you head into your Doctor, get a procedure done and you go home. As you probably know by now, it's going to be a big deal. Whether you have insurance, or you don't have any insurance at all, I wanted to give you some numbers on what you should expect, when it comes down to getting your knee replaced.

If you have insurance, it's important that you check with your insurance to know your deductibles, your co-pay, and more. It never hurts to consult with the hospital, as well as your insurance company. Many hospitals will be able to give you some rather good numbers before the surgery even starts. Even though they can't give you exact numbers, you will find that they will come relatively close.

As long as the surgery is ordered by the Doctor, you will find that most insurance companies will cover them. Insurance companies such as Humana, as well as Blue Cross shouldn't have a problem discussing the surgery with you, in terms of costs.

Now, if you don't have health insurance, you will find that many hospitals out there will require that you pay a certain percentage up front. This prevents those to get a surgery and run away with out having to pay.

Experts from many leading hospitals will tell you that an ACL replacement can vary anywhere from $28,000 to as much as $40,000. A lot comes into play here, ranging from the hospital that is performing your surgery, all the way down to the complexity of the surgery itself.

Other options as well as saving money...

If you're worried about saving money, there are other options that you can choose. Many hospitals out there will more than gladly take cash discounts. You will find that if you haggle ahead of time. Not all hospitals do this.

Doctors will also tell you that you can get a partial knee replacement as well. Only go this route if you Doctor requires that you do so.

While the numbers that I'm giving you are a ballpark figure, it should be a wake up call to you to show you why you should get health insurance. There are many policies out there that you can take advantage of and while many of them are affordable, you shouldn't be living life without a policy!

If you have to, compare rates at various hospitals, and find a healthy option that works for you.
