Why Choose Yoga?

Yoga has many wonderful benefits for your body. Whether you are young, middle age or elderly you can enjoy different types of yoga.

Yoga is gentle on your joints. The last thing you want to do is perform exercises that constantly put too much pressure on your joints. For example, there are many folks that love to run. Over time this can lead to knee injuries. Your ligaments get worn out and before you know it your knee is rubbing bone on bone. Once this happens you need knee surgery. You may need to have a knee replacement and have an artificial joint surgically implanted in your knee or knees.

Yoga will help you tone up your muscles. The poses are simple to difficult. You hold them and strengthen your body. Your core muscles will become stronger. While you are performing yoga you are also concentrating on your breathing. By learning how to breath correctly you will be able to handle stressful situations much better. You will stay calm when you want to run, scream and pull your hair out at work or at home. Yoga can help you achieve a better way of handling things.

Once your muscles are more toned up you will have better strength and endurance. From doing activities of daily living to very difficult tasks you will improve at accomplishing many different things due to your better strength and endurance.

When you perform yoga your posture will improve. You may be one of the people that grew too fast as a teen and now you slouch. You were trying not to feel so tall over all of your friends and family. Now you are in your twenties or thirties and you wish you stood up straight. Yoga can help you change your posture for the better.

Yoga helps your lungs. If you have a lung disease such as COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, yoga will help you breathe better. Make sure you speak to your doctor before performing any type of exercise including yoga. You do not want to over do it and end up using your inhaler or worse. Even if you do not have a lung disease your lung function will improve as you will learn new breathing exercises. The breathing exercises are deep and extended, thus causing improved lung function.

Yoga can help those with heart disease. Since you are doing breathing exercises you are calming yourself down and relaxing. Your blood pressure can lower and your heart rate will slow down.

Yoga is now thought to help boost your immune system. With all of the colds and flu's that are easy to catch, everyone could use this benefit. If you have children, work with children or many people, building up your immune system is a must.

Once you have gotten into yoga you will enjoy sticking to it. You will have a better sense of mind, body and spirit and you will not want to lose that sense of calmness that now surrounds your being.
